Vanderbilt Lacrosse Travels To Northwestern For League Championship 5-5-04

5/5/2004 Commodores on quest for American Lacrosse Conference title and NCAA Tournament berth.

EVANSTON, Ill. — The American Lacrosse Conference regular-season championship and the league’s automatic qualification into the 2004 NCAA Tournament will be decided Thursday when the 11th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team travels to face sixth-ranked Northwestern at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex at 4 p.m. CT.

The Commodores (9-4, 4-1 ALC) are in the hunt for their second conference championship in the past three years. They won the inaugural ALC championship in 2002. Standing in their way are the Wildcats (14-1, 5-0 ALC), who have the nation’s second-longest winning streak at 13 matches.

Vanderbilt has won both meetings in the series that started in 2002. Last season against the Wildcats, a pair of Dores had record days: Jess Roguski contributed six goals to VU’s 15-8 victory, while 2004 Tewaaraton Trophy Nominee Michelle Allen added four assists.

Following Thursday’s match in Evanston, the Commodores will travel to South Bend, Ind., to close the 2004 regular season at Notre Dame on Saturday, May 8, at 1 p.m. After closing the regular season Saturday, the Commodores will await the announcement of the 16-team NCAA Tournament field on Sunday, May 9.
