Vanderbilt Freshman Luke List Named All-SEC

Vanderbilt freshman Luke List today was named first team all-Southeastern Conference by league officials after a vote of conference head coaches.

List, a native of Ringgold, Ga., has enjoyed a sterling campaign, finishing in the Top 10 eight of the Commodores’ 11 tournaments.  List, who averaged just under 72 strokes per tournament round, was tied for third in one tournament, had two fourth place finishes and was only out of the Top 20 one time.

Florida coach Buddy Alexander was voted SEC Coach of the Year by his peers while the Gators’ Camilo Villegas was named SEC Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Florida’s Jessie Mudd and Georgia’s Brendon Todd shared SEC Freshman of the Year honors.

Leading Florida to a No. 1 national ranking and a second-place finish at the SEC Men’s Golf Championship, Buddy Alexander received SEC Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year and seventh time in his coaching career. In his 17th season at the helm of the Gator squad, Alexander has led his team to seven titles and four runner-up finishes in 12 tournaments, heading into NCAA play.

Villegas earned the inaugural Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor. He was also garnered his second SEC Player of the Year award after amassing a 70.72 stroke average, good for first in the conference. The Medellin, Colombia native was the 2002 SEC Player of the Year and the 2001 SEC Freshman of the Year. He finished in the top 10 eight times this season. Villegas was also a first -team All-SEC selection for the third time in his career.

Mudd earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Year honors after amassing a 72.47 stroke average, good for 10th in the conference. The Louisville, Ky., native finished in the top 20 in eight of the 11 tournaments he competed in.

Todd earned SEC Co-Freshman of the Year honors after amassing a 72.19 stroke average, good for seventh in the conference. The Cary, N.C., native earned medallist honors at the SEC Men’s Golf Championship and finished in the top 20 of five tournaments. He was also a first-team All-SEC selection.
