Vanderbilt Women’s Basketball Team Honored at Tennessee House of Representatives 4-21-04

4/21/2004

Fresh off a 2003-04 campaign that saw that Vanderbilt Women’s Basketball squad post a 26-8 overall record, advance to the “Sweet Sixteen” of the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time and pick up the program’s fourth Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship, the Commodores were honored on Wednesday afternoon by the Tennessee State House of Representatives with a state resolution congratulating the team on winning the 2004 SEC Tournament.

Five members of this year’s squad, Hillary Hager, Abi Ramsey, Jen Hall, Erica Grimaldi and Katie Antony, and the coaching staff were in attendance at the festivities in the House Chamber of the State Capitol Building.  The group was officially introduced to the representatives at the 2:00 p.m. opening of the new General Session by 54th District Representative Edith Langster, a member of the Davidson County delegation.

Vanderbilt grabbed the SEC Championship by becoming only the second team (Auburn ’97) to win four games in four consecutive days at the SEC Tournament.  After defeating Kentucky 60-41, #19/22 Auburn, 76-74, and #15/14 LSU, 78-66, to get to the title matchup, the Black and Gold roared back from an 18-point second half deficit to defeat the #20/16 Georgia Lady Bulldogs, 62-56.  The victory gave VU four tournament titles (1993, 1995, 2002, 2004) and boosted the Commodores mark to a perfect 8-0 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tenn.
