Falk of VU Women’s Tennis Named SEC Player of the Week 4/12/2004 NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Audra Falk, a junior on the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team, has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for leading the Commodores to a 5-2 victory over No. 21 Kentucky this past weekend. Falk paired with junior Annie Menees to take the first of three VU wins in doubles play before clinching the match with a straight-set victory at first singles. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native has won eight consecutive singles matches to improve her dual-match record to 16-6. In conference play, Falk posted a 9-2 record at first singles — a position she has held all season for the Commodores, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation. Individually, Falk is ranked No. 14 in the country in singles and, with Menees, has been as high as No. 10 in the doubles rankings. During the 2003-04 season, she has racked up a team-best 59 total wins, including singles victories over then-No. 5 Amanda Johnson of Duke and No. 19 Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky. Falk and the Commodores will take part in the 2004 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament this weekend, April 15-18, at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center on Vanderbilt’s campus. VU awaits the winner of a match between seventh-seeded Alabama and 10th-seeded Auburn. The Commodores are scheduled to take the court for that match on Friday, April 16, at 1:15 p.m. CT. |
