May Wood Repeats as SEC Golfer of Week 4-8-04

4/8/2004

The Southeastern Conference announced today that Vanderbilt’s May Wood has been named its “Golfer of the Week” for the second time this spring.

The Signal Mountain, Tennessee sophomore helped lead Vanderbilt to a third place finish at the Bryan National Collegiate Women’s Golf Championship last weekend.  Wood was tied for the individual lead after 36 holes and led much of the final round, finishing second with an ever par 72-68-76=216, two strokes behind Duke’s Elizabeth Janangelo.

Wood had won the same honor from the SEC in February after she was medalist at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational.

While the honor is the second of the year for May Wood, it marks the third time a Commodore has been recognized since February.  Freshman Chris Brady was the winner March 24 after winning the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational.

This spring’s SEC honorees:

Mar. 4 Amanda McCurdy, AR
Mar. 19 Adrienne Gautreaux, SC
