Junior Mark Donnell closed out the Atlanta Intercollegiate with a final round 1-under par 71.

Commodores Finish 12th; Rookie List Ties for 10th at 4-under (212)

Vanderbilt carded a final round 295 for a three-day total of 894 to complete the Atlanta Intercollegiate in 12th position at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga.  Freshman Luke List posted all three of his rounds at par or better, on the par-72, 6,899-yard layout, to lead Vanderbilt individually in a tie fo 10th at 4-under par 212 (70-70-72).

The top-ranked Florida Gators easily picked up the team title at 25-under par 839 with #12 South Carolina 14 strokes back (853).  UF’s Camilo Villegas nabbed individual honors at 12-under par 204, with his Gator teammate Jessie Mudd two shots back at  (-10) 206. 

List, a Ringgold, Ga., native posted the seventh top-10 finish of his brief career by completing play in a tie for 10th at 4-under par 212.  After finishing in the top-10 of four of the five fall events Vanderbilt participated in, the rookie has now been in the top-10 in three of four spring tournaments. 

Junior Mark Donnell (Mobile, Ala.) closed with a solid 1-under par 71 for a three-day total of 224 to finish in a tie for 41st.  Fellow juniors Ben McClung (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and Lance Goodson (Birmingham, Ala.) completed play at 228 and 230, respectively, to rate in a deadlock at 51st and 56th overall. 

Sophomore Will Armstrong maintained his second round position with a final round 77 to complete play in 62nd at 238. 

Vanderbilt will take to the links over April 9-10 in their final spring tournament before the Southeastern Conference Championships  at the The Intercollegiate MacGregor Downs in Cary, N.C.

Vanderbilt Men’s Golf in 12th Position after Second Round of Atlanta Intercollegiate

Coach Press McPhaul’s Vanderbilt men’s golf squad closed out Monday’s action at the Atlanta Intercollegiate in 12th position after rounds of 304-295 gave the Black and Gold a two-round total of (+23) 599.  Freshman Luke List (Ringgold, Ga.) leads the ‘Dores by sitting in a four-way tie for sixth after firing consecutive rounds of 70 for a total of 4-under par 140.  The rookie sensation sits just five strokes off the pace of individual leader Jack Ferguson of Clemson (70-65=135).

Top-ranked Florida leads the team standings with an incredible 21-under par total of 555, while second-ranked Clemson (565), #3 Georgia (566) and #12 South Carolina (567) all remain within 12 strokes of the lead. 

Junior Ben McClung, a Ponte Vedra, Fla., native made Vanderbilt’s strongest move during the afternoon by carding a 2-under par 70 to move into a tie for 56th.  The score marked McClung’s lowest 18-hole total of the 2003-04 season.  His previous low-round of the campaign had been 71, carded at both the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions and the Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate during the fall season.  

Juniors Lance Goodson (Birmingham, Ala.) and Mark Donnell (Mobile, Ala.) are deadlocked with their teammate McClung in 56th after the duo fired 77 and 78, respectively, for a two-round total of 153.  Sophomore Will Armstrong carded an afternoon 78 to take 62nd-position with a total of 161. 

The prestigious tournament is being contested on a par-72, 6,899-yard layout at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga. 
 

Vanderbilt Men’s Golf Team Opens Play at the Atlanta Intercollegiate

The Vanderbilt Commodores opened play on Monday morning at the fifth-annual Atlanta Intercollegiate with an opening round 16-over par total of 304 to stand in 12th position.  Freshman Luke List, from nearby Ringgold, Ga., leads the Commodores in the individual standings in a tie for 10th after carding a 2-under par 70 in his initial tour of the course.

The tournament is being contested on the par-72, 6,899-yard layout at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Atlanta, Ga. 

The powerful field at one the premier events in NCAA Division I golf includes the top three teams in the nation (Florida, Clemson and Georgia) as well as eight total squads that rate in the top-50 of this week’s Golfweek/Sagarin rankings (#1 Florida, #2 Clemson, #3 Georgia, #5 Georgia Tech, #12 South Carolina, #16 Augusta State, #34 Georgia State and #42 Vanderbilt).  On the individual side, seven of the country’s top 25 golfers are represented at the event.   

Black and Gold juniors Mark Donnell (Mobile, Ala.) and Lance Goodson (Birmingham, Ala.) opened play by carding (+3) 75 and (+4) 76 to tie for 41st and 49th, respectively.  Sophomore Will Armstrong (Austin, Texas) and junior Ben McClung (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) both fired 83 to tie for 62nd after the first round.
