No. 17 Men’s Tennis Wins At Auburn, 5-2 AUBURN, Ala. — The 17th-ranked Vanderbilt men’s tennis team earned a 5-2 Southeastern Conference road win against No. 52 Auburn at the Luther Young Tennis Complex Sunday. The Dores captured the match’s first five points to secure the victory. The doubles point was hotly contested, with the Tigers taking third doubles before the Commodores rallied on courts one and two to win the point. VU senior Lew Smith and junior Scott Brown teamed up at first doubles to take an 8-4 win over 29th-ranked Gabor Zoltan Pelva and Alex Schweizer, pulling the Dores even with Auburn. Senior Zach Dailey and sophomore Greg Sossaman won a tiebreaker, 7-4, to give the Commodores the first point of the match. Vanderbilt put the match away by taking four-straight singles matches. Junior Matt Lockin defeated Robert Lathouwers, 7-5, 6-4, at third singles; Smith took a 6-3, 6-3 decision from Brett Hunter at sixth singles; And Sossaman clinched the match for Vanderbilt with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at fifth singles. Brown was also victorious for the Commodores, who took losses in the remaining two matches to reach the final 5-2 tally. The Commodores (11-6, 5-2 SEC) return to action Wednesday, March 31, as they play host to No. 56 Old Dominion.
