No. 9 VU Lacrosse Travels To No. 7 Duke 3-27-04
3/27/2004
DURHAM, N.C. — The ninth-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team plays only its second away match of the season against seventh-ranked Duke at Koskinen Stadium on Sunday, March 28. The Commodores (5-1, 1-0 American Lacrosse Conference) are shooting for their first six-game winning streak in school history.
During their current winning streak, the Commodores are allowing less than eight goals per game. On the offensive end, a trio of seniors has led the way for Vanderbilt. Lauren Peck leads the Commodores with 19 goals and 23 points. Jess Roguski is first on the team with 16 draw controls and has netted 80% of her shots this season. Michelle Allen has contributed 10 assists to the VU attack and received honorable mention from insidelacrosse.com for her performance last week in wins over New Hampshire and Cornell. While the Commodores have won five consecutive matches, the Blue Devils (5-3, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) have dropped three of their last four after starting the year 4-0. Last season in Nashville, Vanderbilt upset then-No. 2 Duke, 8-6, behind a hat-trick from attacker Lauren Peck and 14 saves by goalie Ashley Bastinelli. Vanderbilt opens a four-game road swing Sunday which features three contests against nationally ranked foes and a pair of key ALC battles. The Commodores will return to the Music City for their final weekend homestand against Ohio and Ohio State at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex, April 16-18.
