Chris Brady Leads After First Round at Longhorn Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas — Vanderbilt’s Chris Brady shot an even-par 72 to take the first round lead at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. In the team standings, Vanderbilt sits in third place at 316.

Vanderbilt started on No. 10 in Sunday’s split tee format and was among the first few schools to complete their rounds before a 30-minute rain delay halted play on the 6,248-yard, par 72 layout at The Hills Country Club.

After going out in 2-over-par 38, Brady birdied both par 5s on the front side to get back to level par. The freshman from Cary, N.C., finished with three birdies and three bogeys on the day.

Brady holds a two-stroke lead over Cassandra Kirkland of Arizona and Janice Olivencia of Texas.

Vanderbilt’s Courtney Wood sits in a tie for 17th place after firing a 7-over-par 79. Sarah Jacobs and Kristen Svicarovich turned in rounds of 81 and 84 for the Commodores, respectively.

The Commodores were forced to count all four scores when May Wood withdrew prior to Sunday’s round.

Vanderbilt trails host Texas (309) by seven shots and UNLV (313) by three shots. Southern California is in fourth place at 318, while TCU and SMU are tied for fifth at 320.

The second round will begin on Monday with an 8 a.m. CT start on split tees.
