Vanderbilt Releases Football Schedule: Commodores Host South Carolina in Opener 3-23-04 NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For the first time in six years, the Commodores will host Tennessee in Vanderbilt Stadium, university athletic officials announced today in releasing the team’s upcoming football schedule. The 11-game schedule includes six home games at Vanderbilt Stadium, starting with an important season opener against SEC Eastern Division foe South Carolina on September 4 and concluding with intrastate rival Tennesse November 20. The UT game returns to Dudley Field at Vanderbilt Stadium for the first time in six years. Other Commodore home games include encounters with Mississippi State (Oct. 2), Rutgers (Oct. 9), Eastern Kentucky (Oct. 23) and homecoming versus Florida (Nov. 6). An announcement on 2004 Vanderbilt season ticket prices is expected next week. Bobby Johnson, entering his third season at the helm of Commodore football, said the upcoming schedule provides his squad “an exciting challenge.” “The entire schedule looks tough, but it always does in this conference. I think the schedule offers a lot of excitement for our fans,” Johnson said. “When you open the season against an important SEC team like South Carolina, then play a full schedule and conclude with Florida and Tennessee, it makes for a pretty exciting home schedule. “Our players and staff also are extremely pleased to be back on campus against Tennessee. Playing in our stadium will make for a better collegiate atmosphere,” Johnson added. The Commodores also travel to some of the nation’s top collegiate football venues with road encounters at Ole Miss, Navy, Georgia, LSU and Kentucky. The 2004 Vanderbilt Football Schedule SEC Championship Game will be played December 4 in Atlanta, Ga. |
