Vanderbilt Heads to Texas for the Betsy Rawls Invitational 3/20/2004 Vanderbilt’s women’s golf team left for Austin, Texas Friday in preparation for the 2004 Betsy Rawls Invitational, which will be conducted Sunday through Tuesday at the Hills Country Club. The Commodores will be hoping to regain their winning form after a disappointing eighth place finish two weeks ago at the Lady Gator Invitational. Vanderbilt had won the Arizona Wildcat Invitational the end of February, its second tournament victory of the year. Freshman Kristen Svicarovich was the bright spot for Vanderbilt in Florida, narrowly missing her first top 10 finish. Coach Martha Freitag will be looking for strong performances from seniors Courtney Wood and Sarah Jacobs, sophomore May Wood and freshman Chris Brady. There are 18 teams in the Texas field: Arizona, Arizona State, California, Kansas, Kansas State, UNLV, North Carolina, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Purdue, Southern Cal, Southern Methodist, Texas, Texas A & M, TCU and Tulsa. Oklahoma State won the 2003 team championship with Jessica Reese of Texas winning medalist honors with a four-under par 212. Play begins Sunday and Monday at 8:00 a.m. (CT) with teams teeing off from both No. 1 and No. 10 while Tuesday’s action starts with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. |
