No. 13 VU Men’s Tennis Plays Host To No. 24 Arkansas, No. 14 LSU NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 13th-ranked Vanderbilt men’s tennis team will host a pair of key Southeastern Conference matches this weekend when No. 24 Arkansas and No. 14 LSU visit the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center. The match against the Razorbacks is scheduled for Friday, March 19, at 2 p.m. CT, while the contest with the Tigers is slated for Sunday, March 21, at 1 p.m. Vanderbilt (8-5, 2-1 in the SEC) is coming off a heartbreaking loss to No. 2 Ole Miss last weekend, 5-2. Prior to that match, the Commodores opened the SEC schedule with a pair of wins over then-No. 3 Florida and No. 19 South Carolina. Senior Chad Harris leads the Commodores into this weekend, ranked No. 16 in the nation by the ITA. Arkansas (10-2, 1-1) used last weekend’s spring break to take a trip to Hawaii, where they defeated the Rainbow Warriors, 6-1. Razorback Adrian Zguns is the SEC’s top-ranked player, at No. 8 in the ITA’s most recent poll. He has won 26-of-31 matches this season for Arkansas. The Commodores will be looking to avenge a 4-3 loss from the 2003 season, one of only four defeats for the Dores last season. LSU (9-1, 1-1) is led by the reigning SEC Player of the Week, No. 58 Ken Skupski. The Tigers have won their last two matches, defeating then-No. 28 Tennessee and No. 13 Texas A&M over the past two weekends. In Baton Rouge a season ago, the Dores defeated LSU, 5-2, en route to a 27-4 dual-match record and a trip to the Championship match of the NCAA Tournament. The Commodores will play host to the 2004 Southeastern Conference Tournament, April 22-25, at the Currey Tennis Center. Vanderbilt is the defending champion of the tournament, having defeated No. 22 Georgia, No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 2 Florida last season to take the title. |
