No. 11 VU Lacrosse Travels To No. 17 Stanford 3-6-04

3/6/2004 Teams meet Sunday, March 7, in East/West Challenge

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The 11th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team will make a 2,200-mile trek this weekend to face the 17th-ranked Stanford Cardinal at Maloney Field on Sunday, March 7, at 3 p.m. CT.

The Commodores (1-1, 1-0 in the American Lacrosse Conference) defeated then-No. 10 Penn State last weekend in Nashville, 16-12. Stanford (3-2) has lost its last two matches, falling at home to Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Vanderbilt is 2-1 all-time against the Cardinal, in a series that began in 1996. The Commodores lost the meeting in Palo Alto, 11-16, on March 9, 2001. VU exacted revenge the following year, taking a 15-10 decision on March 28, 2002.

Senior leadership has been the trademark of Vanderbilt’s first two games. Tewaaraton Trophy candidate Michelle Allen has posted 10 goals in the Dores’ first two matches, while classmate Jess Roguski earned American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week honors for leading the Commodores past Penn State. Roguski contributed three goals, one assist and six draw controls to the effort.

Following their trip to California, the Commodores will return home for the remainder of Spring Break. Vanderbilt will end the week away from classes with pair of home matches against Yale and New Hampshire on March 13 and 15, respectively.
