NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt’s women’s golf team, fresh off its victory in last week’s Wildcat Invitational in Arizona, has jumped to seventh position in golfweek.com’s latest rankings.

Sarah Jacobs is ranked fourteenth and May Wood No. 16 individually.  While Vanderbilt officials do not keep such records, it is thought these two ranked in the top 16 is the highest two Commodores have ever been rated at the same time.

Jacobs, a senior from Whites Creek, Tenn., has the best tournament scoring average on the team (73.6) in 15 competitive rounds while May Wood was named SEC Golfer of the Week last week after winning the Arizona tournament.  It was the second time the Chattanooga sophomore has won the SEC honor.
 
Duke leads the latest team poll followed by UCLA, New Mexico, California, Georgia, Ohio State and Vanderbilt.

Elizabeth Janangelo and V. Nirapathpongporn of Duke top the individual rankings.  The only Southeastern Conference golfer rated higher than Jacobs is Naree Song of Florida in seventh position.

The Commodores next compete in the Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville March 7-9.
