Ryan Mullins Named SEC Pitcher of the Week NASHVILLE — Vanderbilt’s Ryan Mullins (6-6, 179, So., LHP, Nashville, Tenn.) has been named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week. Mullins recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in a 15-0 win over Southern Illinois Sunday (Feb. 22). After giving up a hit on the first pitch of the game, he retired the next 15 consecutive batters, including 10 strikeouts. He faced 23 batters in seven innings and gave up three hits and no walks in the shutout. He totaled 85 pitches in the contest and struck out the final two batters he faced in the seventh inning. The Commodores swept Southern Illinois in the three-game series, 12-6, 10-8 and 15-0. It is the first SEC Pitcher of the Week honor for Mullins and the first for a Commodore pitcher since April 8, 2003, when Jeremy Sowers won the honor. |
