No. 16 Vanderbilt Lacrosse Opens Season At Home Against No. 3 Virginia 2-21-04 2/21/2004 NASHVILLE — The 16th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team will open its 2004 regular season schedule with a match against third-ranked Virginia at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Noon CT. Commodore Head Coach Cathy Swezey, entering her seventh year at the helm of the program, will feature nine seniors on her most experienced team to date. In a preseason poll released last week by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association, Vanderbilt was tabbed 16th in the nation. The Commodores also were chosen to finish third in the American Lacrosse Conference. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the ALC, which will receive an automatic NCAA Tournament bid for its regular season champion for the first time in 2004. Three Commodores were chosen All-Conference in the league, the most selections of the seven member schools. Seniors Michelle Allen, Lauren Peck and Jess Roguski all made the list. Allen also was recently named to the preseason Tewaaraton Trophy “Watch List” — a list of 25 players across the nation expected to vie for the most coveted and prestigious award in varsity lacrosse. |
