Commodores make 10 three-pointers in loss

COLUMBIA, S.C. Mario Moore had 19 points and six assists but Vanderbilt couldn’t overcome a 14-point halftime deficit as No. 25 South Carolina defeated the Commodores 82-75 Saturday night.

USC’s Michael Boynton made his first three 3-pointers as the Gamecocks broke on top 32-16. Then, after Vanderbilt cut the margin to 39-32, the senior struck for another behind the arc and the lead grew from there.

The Commodores cut the 21-point margin to 82-75 with 8.6 seconds to go, but couldn’t close the gap any more.

Matt Freije finished with 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Rolando Howell

had 17 points and 12 rebounds, his second straight double-double, for South Carolina, while freshman Tre Kelley had a career-high 16 points.

Vanderbilt will return to action on Wednesday, when it travels to Alabama. Tip-off in Tuscaloosa is set for 7 p.m.
