10 Questions With Mike Holder

With the start of the 2004 Vanderbilt Baseball season less than two weeks away, the coaches and players can’t wait to get the season going. Each weekday leading up to first pitch, VUCommodores.com will sit down with the three Commodore seniors and the four coaches in a segment we call — 10 Questions With.

VUCommodores.com: What is the best baseball movie of all-time?
Mike Holder: Field of Dreams.

VU: What web site do you check first everyday?
MH: weather.com.

VU: What CD is in your player right now?
MH: Waylon Jennings Greatest Hits.

VU: Who on the team talks the best chatter?
MH: Nick Pilkington.

VU: What’s the most obscure place you’ve ever played baseball?
MH: Laney HS in Augusta, Ga. – The outfield fence was 15 feet high and had barbed wire wrapped along the top. There was also a goalpost in left-center field.

VU: What is the biggest game on the schedule this year (to you personally)?
MH: Whatever game we are playing that day.

VU: What major league ballpark would you like to play in?
MH: Fenway Park.

VU: What pregame/in-game superstitions do you have?
MH: I keep my shoes shaped with shoe trees… I remove the shoe trees and polish both shoes with kiwi polish daily!!!

VU: How do you break in a new glove?
MH: Play catch with it and don’t use glove oil.

VU: Tell us some interesting fact about you.
MH: My father was the first baseball coach to be inducted into the Georgia High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
