Georgia Defeats the ‘Dores 83-67 2-6-04 2/6/2004 The Lady Bulldogs used an 18-4 second half run to defeat the Commodores 83-67 Thursday night in Memorial Gym. Vanderbilt freshman Carla Thomas scored a career-high 24 points and eight rebounds to lead the ‘Dores. Georgia held a 36-30 lead to begin the second half, but the Lady Bulldogs’ speed and defense helped Georgia to turn a six point lead into a 20 point lead in only four minutes. Vanderbilt committed four turnovers during the critical stretch that led directly to Georgia points. The ‘Dores did make a late rally. Vanderbilt trimmed the 18 point deficit to just 11 with just over two minutes remaining. Thomas contributed eight points in Vanderbilt’s last effort. Georgia held a decisive advantage at the free throw line. The Lady Bulldogs connected on 22 of 26 attempts while the Commodores were only eight of 12. Georgia was led by Sherill Baker who had 24 followed by Janese Hardrick who added 20 points. |
