Head Coach Bobby Johnson Signs 20 Future Commodores 2/4/2004
Head Coach Bobby Johnson Signs 20 Future Commodores Vanderbilt Head Coach Bobby Johnson is pleased with the Commodores’ Signing Class of 2004 announced today. The 20-prospect class, which includes a trio of Mr. Football recipients, features several talented defensive linemen and running backs intended to fill future voids on the Commodore roster. “I’m very excited about this signing class,” Johnson said Wednesday. “We outlined our needs at each position early on in the process and worked hard to fill those areas. At the same time, we also wanted to attract the most talented players available, regardless of position. I think we succeeded on both fronts. Among the Commodore signees are seven defensive line prospects, three candidates at running back, and one of the South’s most heavily touted quartebacks. “We had a couple of areas, such as the defensive line and offensive backfield, that will be affected by graduation losses the next two years,” Johnson said. “I think we did a very good job in both of those areas, in particular.” “Since we arrived on campus, our coaches and players have worked to get better every day. Our staff wants the recruiting effort to show the same progress. I think this class does,” the coach added. Johnson’s third Spring Practice with the Commodores gets underway Wednesday, Feb. 18. |
