No. 4 Dores Too Much For Martin, Murray NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The fourth-ranked Vanderbilt men’s tennis team picked up a pair of shutout victories at the Brownlee O. Currey Jr. Tennis Center today, defeating both UT-Martin and Murray State, 7-0. In the morning match, the Commodores swept the Skyhawks in doubles and scored six straight-set victories in singles. Victorious in singles play for Vanderbilt were seniors Chad Harris, ranked No. 55 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and Zach Dailey (No. 45), sophomore Greg Sossaman, and freshmen Nathan Sachs, Evan Dufaux and Jordan Magarik. Head Coach Ken Flach changed the Dores lineup in the second match, but the team earned a similar result. Vanderbilt got wins at first and second doubles to win the doubles point before rattling off six consecutive singles victories. Earning wins against the Racers were senior Lewis Smith and juniors Scott Brown (No. 46) and Matt Lockin (No. 27), as well as Sossaman, Dufaux and Magarik. The Commodores travel to Seattle, Wash., this week to take part in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Washington. The 16-team tournament features many of the nation’s top teams. The fourth-seeded Commodores will take on 12th-seeded California in the tournament’s first round on Thursday, Feb. 5.
