Hillary Hager and the Vanderbilt offense exploded as they defeated Ole Miss 90-65 Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gym. Hager led all scorers with 21 points.

Hager, who was held scoreless in the Commodores’ last game at Tennessee, responded in a huge way. In addition to Hager’s 21 points, she also grabbed five rebounds and connected on three three-pointers with one closing out the first half and a 10-0 Vanderbilt run.

With the Lady Rebels leading 35-34, freshman Jen Hall caught fire. Hall, freshman from Folsom, California, made a fastbreak layup and then converted a three-point-play to put VU up 39-35. After junior Ashley Earley made a layup, Hager bombed her bucket from long range at the buzzer to send the Commodores into halftime leading 44-35.

Hager was one of five Commodores who scored in double-figures. Hall had 12, Earley had 17, Carla Thomas had 10, and Abi Ramsey had 12.

Vanderbilt’s 90 points was the most scored in conference play since the ‘Dores won at Kentucky 91-61 in 2001.

The win also set a milestone for Head Coach Melanie Balcomb who recorded her 200th career victory. Coach Balcomb’s record stands at 200-115 and 37-13 at Vanderbilt.

After Vanderbilt’s streak to close out the first half, the Lady Rebels would never again threaten. The closest Ole Miss would get would be 46-39 after a layup by Armintie Price with 18:19 left.

The Lady Rebels were led by Amber Watts who scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

The Commodores play at Arkansas January 29th and return home February 1st when they host the Florida Gators at 2 pm.
