The Vanderbilt Commodore baseball team opened the 2004 season with its first practice yesterday at Hawkins Field.  It wasn’t your typical opening day, but it was a special day for the Commodores that included dinner and a movie.

Following practice, the team had dinner in the lockerroom and then caravaned to Cool Springs where they watched a pre-release screening of Miracle – a movie about the 1980 USA Gold Medal Hockey Team.

“It was a team-building day in that following practice we had dinner together and then went to see the movie Miracle,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim Corbin said.  “The movie takes on many of the team values we talk about every day,” Corbin added.

“We’ve had a good start to Spring practice because of our work in the Fall.”

The Commodores return all nine position players and four pitchers from last season’s team that finished second in the SEC East advancing to the SEC Tournament.

Vanderbilt opens the season with a three-game series with Southern Illinois Feb. 20 (Friday).

Season tickets are available at the McGugin Center or by calling 615-322-GOLD or visiting online at vucommodores.com.  Tickets are $65 for adults and $30 for 17 and younger and 65 and older.
