National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division I Preseason Poll The Vanderbilt Commodore baseball team received votes in the 2004 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) preseason poll released today. The poll has representation from eight different conferences and top independents among the 287 baseball-playing schools in NCAA Division I. Nine of Vanderbilt’s opponents are listed in the poll, including eight from the Southeastern Conference. Second-year head coach Tim Corbin and the Commodores begin practice Jan. 21 (Wednesday). All nine position starters along with four pitchers, including pre-season all-american Jeremy Sowers, return for the Commodores who advanced to the SEC Tournament last season finishing second in the SEC East. Vanderbilt opens the 2004 season at Hawkins Field with a three-game series vs. Southern Illinois Feb. 20 (Friday).
