Women’s Cross Country Team Finishes Fifth at SEC Championships 11/3/2003 Athens, GA. – The Vanderbilt women’s cross country team finished fifth at the SEC Cross Country Championships held Monday in Athens, GA. The Commodores narrowly missed a chance to post its best finish ever at this meet. The Commodores, coached by Jim Spivey finished one point behind fourth place finisher Kentucky (106), and four points behind third place Arkansas (103). Vanderbilt’s score of 107 is the second lowest point total in Vanderbilt’s SEC Championship history, and their fifth place finish ties the second-best finish in school history. This was Vanderbilt’s best meet since 1997, when the Commodores placed fourth with 94 points. The University of Tennessee won the meet with a score of 57, while Auburn sophomore Anglea Homan took home individual honors with a time of 21:49.76 on the 6K course. The Commodores were led by sophomore Erika Schneble (10th, 22:42.92), and freshman Ashleigh Wetzel (15th, 22:50.79). Schneble’s tenth place finish ties the second best individual finish for a Commodore at the SEC Championships, and Wetzel’s 15th place finish puts her ninth on the all-time list. Also contributing for Vanderbilt were Debbie Huss (18th, 22:59.38), Caitlin Shannon (27th, 23:27.21), Amy Huss (37th, 23:47.09), Lauren Pence (47th, 24:11.52), and Nadiyah Humber (65th, 25:15.97). The Commodores have a week off to prepare for the NCAA South Regionals on November 15th. The top two teams in the region move on to the NCAA Championships. Team Results 1.
