Vanderbilt enjoyed its best day of the tournament behind strong performances by Luke List and Lance Goodson to finish in a tie for 13th place at the talent-laden Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Georgia Sunday.

The Commodores fired a two-under par team total of 286 — 10 shots better than their Saturday total — and ended in a tie with Texas Christian in the field that included 15 members of the nation’s Top 25. Vanderbilt was just seven shots away from seventh place. Freshman Luke List crafted an excellent three-under par 69, starting on No. 10 and notching three birdies in his first four holes. His only bogey came on No. 9, his final hole. His effort put him into a tie for 12th individually. Meanwhile, teammates Lance Goodson and Mark Donnell were finishing with a flurry. Goodson had a 71 and birdied five of his last nine holes. Donnell was even hotter. After struggling in with a five-over 41 on his opening back side nine, the Commodore junior birdied four holes in a row and five of his first six to scortch the front nine with a five-under 31 and an even par round of 72. Ben McClung added a 74 while freshman Dos Goldsmith had one of those days, coming in with an 83 that did not figure into the Vanderbilt total.

Day 2

Freshman Luke List carded a two-under-par 70 to give him a two-round total of 146 and position him in 27th place at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. List was the only Commodore under par Saturday as Vanderbilt slips to 14th.

While List made the biggest improvement from the first round to the second, other Commodores played well also. Donnell (77) and McClung (75) each improved two and one shot respectively. Rounding out the Vanderbilt players was Lance Goodson’s 75.

Clemson still holds the lead powered behind the duo of Jack Ferguson and Matt Hendrix who are in second and fourth place respectively.

Vanderbilt will compete in the final round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Sunday. The tournament is being played at the par 72 – 7010 yard Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Georgia.

Day 1

Vanderbilt fired a 14-over-par 302 and found itself in tenth place after the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Friday. The tournament is being played at the par 72 – 7010 yard Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Georgia.

The Commodores were led by junior Lance Goodson who shot a two-over-par 74 to put him in a tie for 25th place. Freshmen Luke List and Dos Goldsmith and juniors Mark Donnell and Ben McClung all came in at four-over-par with a 76 to put the in a tie for 44th.

Clemson shot a one-over-par 289 to lead the 18 team field heading into Saturday’s second round. Clemson’s

Matt Hendrix, who made seven birdies on his way to a three-under 69, is in the individual lead ahead of three players who each shot a 70.

“We got off to quite a start, but we did have a bit of trouble with their finish. It was not a good putting day, but I think we are still going to have a good weekend,” said Head Coach Press McPhaul.
