Three Seniors Honored Prior to the Game

Nashville, Tenn

. – The Vanderbilt men’s soccer team took #12 Tulsa to a 2-2 double overtime tie today in the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex in Missouri Valley Conference action on Senior Day. VU is now 3-8-5, 0-5-2 in MVC action, while Tulsa is 10-4-2, 4-1-2 in league play.

The Commodores jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals from seniors Brian Lamping and Jimmy Stone.

Lamping scored on an unassisted goal at the 6:17 mark when he stole the ball from a Tulsa player who had slipped on the wet field and shot it in from 18-yards out to the right side of the net. Stone scored 19 minutes later (25:53) when he beat Tulsa’s goalkeeper Justin Durst on a cross from Brent Richards from 15-yards out.

The Hurricanes scored its first goal at the 37:56 mark when Matt Wiley took a pass from Michael Haynes and scored from 6-yards out. Tulsa’s Ryan Pore tied it at two on a penalty kick after VU’s Dustin Siehr received a yellow card at the 40:45 mark.

All four goals were scored in the first half.

Tulsa totaled 29 shots in the game, including 24 in regulation, one in the second overtime and four in the second overtime. With 50 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, VU freshman goalkeeper Conor Ellinger made a diving save to the right side on a 10-yard shot from Jonathan Lange.

Vanderbilt numbered 16 shots in the game, including 15 in regulation, one in the first overtime and none in the second overtime.

Ellinger totaled nine saves in the game, while Durst totaled five saves.

Three Vanderbilt seniors were honored prior to the game, including Brian Lamping, Shaun Lieser and Jimmy Stone.

The Commodores take on Evansville Friday and Southwest Missouri Sunday, both on the road.
