Commodores Play to 0-0 Double Overtime Tie at Alabama 10/12/2003
Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Vanderbilt Commodores played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie today against Alabama in Southeastern Conference action. Vanderbilt is now 5-5-2, 1-3-1 in SEC play, while Alabama owns a 7-6-1 mark, 0-3-1 in league action. Vanderbilt totaled 18 shots in the contest including 13 on goal led by Kelci Hegg with four. Alabama numbered three shots on goal in regulation, but was not able to get a shot off in both overtime periods. Vanderbilt totaled four shots in overtime. Vanderbilt’s Kim Perkin’s header with just under 30 seconds in regulation was high sending the game to overtime. In the first overtime period, Hegg’s shot at the 90:42 mark was saved by Alabama goalkeeper Laura Lowman. Jen Talavera had a shot sail wide right at the 91:35 mark and Lauren Mitchell’s shot with just over a minute remaining was saved by Lowman. Talavera had a header saved by Lowman at the 105:51 mark. Vanderbilt’s Esther Thompson recorded two saves in goal playing the entire 110 minutes, while Lowman numbered 12 saves in the match. The Commodores numbered 18 shots in the contest compared to Alabama’s six. Vanderbilt plays at South Carolina Friday (Oct. 17) in a 7 pm ET match. |
