Vanderbilt Men’s Soccer Plays to 0-0 Tie with Eastern Illinois
Charleston, Illinois – The Vanderbilt men’s soccer team played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime at Eastern Illinois today at Lakeside Field. It is the fourth double-overtime tie for the Commodores this season. Vanderbilt is now 3-4-4, 0-1-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Eastern Illinois owns a 5-4-2 mark, 0-1-1 in MVC action. There was a total of 64 shots in the game, including 33 by Vanderbilt and 31 by Eastern Illinois. It was even in the second half with each team taking 11 shots, but Eastern Illinois had a 16-15 advantage in the second half. It was even, four apiece in the first overtime, but Vanderbilt outshot the Panthers 3-0 in the second overtime. Vanderbilt freshman goalkeeper Conor Ellinger played the entire game and totaled six saves (the team totaled two), while EIU’s Casey DeCaluwe totaled nine saves in goal. Ellinger did not face a shot in either overtime period. Freshman Casey Steen numbered seven shots, three on goal, followed by freshman Curt Hinds with three shots, all on goal. The Commodores continue MVC action Friday when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to take on Western Kentucky at 7 pm. |
