Women’s Golf Team Ranked Sixth 9/8/2003 Golfweek, one of golf’s leading publications, has ranked the Vanderbilt women’s golf team sixth nationally in its September 6 issue. “Pre-season rankings excite us and motivate our team,” says Head Coach Martha Freitag. “Our No. 1 goal every year is to win the national championship and when we find ourselves in the top 10 mix it reminds us that we have a golden opportunity. But while pre-season rankings are fun, we know that it will be a dogfight at every tournament and the rankings won’t mean very much then.” Golfweek named senior Courtney Wood to its pre-season All-American second-team and spotlighted Kristen Svicarovich and Chris Brady at freshmen to watch. Vanderbilt finished 14th at last year’s NCAA Championship after spending most of the season rated in the Top 10. The Commodores open their season Friday at the NCAA Fall Preview in Opelika, Alabama. |
