Goalkeeper Jamie Burns Named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week Saint Louis, Mo. — Junior goalkeeper Jamie Burns (6-2, 187, Minnetonka, Minn.) is the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. He is the first Commodore to win the award since Matt Gotterer earned the honor Nov. 6, 2001. Burns came off the bench in the Belmont contest, tied at 3-3, and numbered three saves allowing no goals to pick up the win. He then started the East Carollina game and earned his first Vanderbilt career shutout totaling six saves facing 18 shots in the Commodore’s 1-0 win. For the week, he played 118:49 and faced 22 shots and numbered nine saves. He had not played in the Commodores’ three previous games before entering the Belmont contest. The Commodores won two consecutive games over the weekend for the first time since 2001 with a 5-3 win over Belmont and a 1-0 decision against East Carolina. It marked the first time VU scored five goals in a game in five years (1998). Vanderbilt, 3-3-3, opens Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend when they travel to Bradley (Friday) and Eastern Illinois (Sunday). |
