Vanderbilt Men’s Soccer Defeats Belmont, 5-3
Dustin Siehr Scores Game Winner at 72:10 Mark

Nashville, Tenn.

– The Vanderbilt Commodore men’s soccer team scored two goals within 49 seconds to defeat Belmont, 5-3 in the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex Friday night. VU is now 2-3-3 overall, while Belmont is 2-3.

Dustin Siehr took a corner kick from Casey Steen and knocked it past Belmont goalkeeper Matt Renfrow at the 72:10 mark for the game-winning goal. Just 49 seconds later, Jimmy Stone hit a shot from 15-yards out from Austin Woolard to cap the win.

Belmont scored first at the 4:01 mark when Fernando Castellanos kicked in the score from five-yards out off his own rebound. VU’s Drew Ducker tied it at one at the 15:19 mark on a penalty kick. The Commodores took the lead at the 20:25 mark when Stone scored his first goal of the game from 10 yards out on a pass from Ducker. Belmont’s Keith Jacobs tied it again at two when he scored from 5-yards out off an Eric Pittel assist. Casey Steen scored his first career goal as a Commodore on an assist from Austin Wollard giving Vanderbilt a 3-2 lead. Belmont’s Tyler Suffron scored on Fernando Castellanos’ throw in to tie the game for the third time at 3-3 before the Commodores scored the two quick goals to seal the win.

VU’s Conor Ellinger played for 61:11 and was replaced by Jamie Burns with the scored tied at three. He numbered three saves and allowed the three goals. Burns finished the game with three saves allowing no goals.

Belmont’s Matt Renfrow totaled three saves in the contest giving up five goals.

The Commodores totaled 17 shots, eight on goal, while Belmont numbered 14 shots, nine on goal.

Senior Jimmy Stone totaled two goals in the game marking the first time since his freshman season that he totaled two goals in a game. In his freshman season (2000), he numbered two goals against Southwest Missouri State, including the game winner in double overtime.

Vanderbilt’s five goals are the most since a 5-1 win over Belmont in 1998.
