Vanderbilt Baseball Releases 2004 Schedule 9-24-03 Nashville, Tenn. — Vanderbilt Head Baseball Coach Tim Corbin has announced the 2004 Vanderbilt Baseball schedule which features 32 home games, including the Music City Classic and five SEC homestands. Seven teams played in last season’s NCAA Tournament (Baylor, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, LSU) with two teams advancing to the College World Series (LSU and South Carolina). The Commodores open the season with seven consecutive home games beginning Feb. 20 (Friday) with a three-game homestand against Southern Illinois. The Commodores then play Lipscomb before hosting the Music City Classic Feb. 27-29. Vanderbilt hosts Maryland Feb. 27 (Friday), Arkansas State Feb. 28 (Saturday) and Purdue Feb. 29 (Sunday). Vanderbilt travels to Waco, Texas, for a three-game homestand with Baylor March 12-14. “Our strength of schedule is as good as anyone’s in the country,” Corbin said. “We open up against a very strong Southern Illinois team that lost to Wichita State in their conference championship game, so those three games out of the chute will be difficult for us.” “We’re taking on a Baylor team (three games in Waco, Texas) that was just an out away from going to the College World Series, so that should give us a measuring block of who we are. Our non-conference games are very good.” VU opens SEC play on the road March 19-21 when they play at Mississippi. The Commodores first SEC homestand is March 26-28 when they host Georgia at Hawkins Field. “The Southeastern Conference is a power conference with some very fine baseball traditions. There were eight teams in regionals last year, more than any other conference in the country,” Corbin added. Last season, the Commodores finished the season with a 27-28 overall record and advanced to the SEC Tournament for the first time in seven years. The Commodores were second in the SEC East with a 14-16 mark. |
