Nashville, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt Commodores outshot Charleston, but came up short on the scoreboard with a 1-0 loss to the Cougars on the final day of the Vanderbilt University Holiday Inn/PUMA Classic. Vanderbilt is now 1-3-3 on the season, while Charleston is now 4-2-1. Charleston scored the only goal of the game at the 13:49 mark when Sage Martina took a pass from Ben Hollingsworth and shot it into the left corner six-yards out past VU goalkeeper Conor Ellinger. Just two minutes earlier, Vanderbilt’s Brent Richard’s shot hit the inside left post and bounced out denying the Commodores a goal. The Commodores totaled 14 shots in the game, six on goal, led by Richard with four, one on goal. Charleston totaled 13 shots, including two on goal. Ellinger played the entire game for Vanderbilt and totaled one save and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Charleston’s Keith Wiggans played the entire game numbering six saves. Freshman Jamie Gilbert was also named to the All-Tournament team for the Commodores. Davidson defeated Western Kentucky in the first game of the day, 2-1, claiming the tournament title.
