Vanderbilt Ties Davidson 1-1 in Double Overtime In a game where 45 fouls were called and 11 yellow cards were issued, the Vanderbilt Commodores and Davidson Wildcats played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime. The Commodores are now 1-2-3, while Davidson is 3-1-2. Vanderbilt scored first at the 54:18 mark when Drew Ducker hit a shot right-to-left eight-yards out that landed in the left back corner of the goal. It was Ducker’s first career goal. Davidson tied the game at the 73:36 mark when Justin Porter hit a bicycle kick over VU goalkeeper Conor Ellinger just in front of the goal. The Commodores outshot Davidson 17-12, including six shots in overtime. In the first overtime period, Davidson was granted an indirect kick with 14 seconds remaining after Ellinger touched the ball. Keith Nicholson’s shot was blocked forcing a second overtime. In the final overtime period, Jimmy Stone, Dustin Siehr, Shaun Lieser, and Kyle Lapkewych all had scoring opportunities for the Commodores, but just missed the mark. Vanderbilt totaled 17 shots, including nine on goal. Davidson numbered 12 shots, seven on goal. Vanderbilt committed 28 fouls, while Davidson numbered 17. The Wildcats totaled eight corner kicks, while the Commodores had five. VU Goalkeeper Conor Ellinger played the entire game and totaled six saves allowing one goal. Davidson’s Bart Creasman numbered eight saves and allowed one goal. Vanderbilt plays Charleston Sunday (Sept. 21) at 2 pm, while Davidson plays Western Kentucky at Noon |
