Men’s Soccer Falls to New Hampshire, 2-0 9/7/2003 Men’s Soccer Falls to New Hampshire, 2-0 Burlington, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />VT — The Vanderbilt men’s soccer team was defeated by New Hampshire 2-0 in the final day of the Vermont University Smith Barney Classic. The Commodores were 0-1-1 in the Classic — VU played host Vermont to a 0-0 tie in double overtime Friday. The Commodores are now 0-2-2 overall on the season.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” /> Freshmen Eric Steen (5-9, D, Duncanville, Texas) and Ryan McGrath (5-10, MF, Sugarland, Texas) were named to the All-Tournament Team. “Eric and Ryan were steady all weekend,” VU Head Coach Tim McClements said. “We played very well defensively but we just didn’t finish the opportunities we had on the offensive end.” Vanderbilt totaled 17 shots in the contest. “The team fought hard, McClements added. We have a lot of young players and we are still making adjustments. We just need to score a few goals to take the pressure off.” Vanderbilt’s next action is Friday (Sept. 12) when the Commodores host Lipscomb at 7 pm in VU’s home opener. |
