Vanderbilt Defeats Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 1-0 8/31/2003
Milwaukee, Wis . – A couple of Commodore freshmen teamed up to score the only goal of the game to lead Vanderbilt to a 1-0 victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the final day of the Milwaukee Cup. Vanderbilt is now 1-1 on the season, while UW-Milwaukee falls to 0-2. Vanderbilt’s Lea Lafield (5-7, Fr., F, Dallas, Texas) took a pass from Susan McAleavey (5-8, Fr., MF, Syossett, NY) and scored from 12-yards out to the far post for the only score of the game at the 32:42 mark. Stacee Sproul (5-8, Sr., GK, Peachtree, Ga.) recorded the shutout totaling three saves in the contest, including two in the final period. Both teams totaled three shots on goal. The Commodores next action is Saturday (Sept. 6) at Tennessee-Chattanooga for a 7 pm ET match.
