Commodores Drop Season Opener 1-0 to Marquette 8/29/2003 Milwaukee, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Wis. — The Vanderbilt Commodores dropped its season opener to Marquette, 1-0, in first round action of the Milwaukee Cup. After a scoreless first half, Marquette’s Carolyn Klopp looped a shot over VU goalkeeper Stacee Sproul for the only goal of the game in the 81st minute. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?> The Commodores numbered nine shots led by senior Laura Hershenow with three, while Marquette numbered 10 shots. Sproul totaled three saves in the game. Both teams totaled six corner kicks. Vanderbilt plays UW-Milwaukee Sunday (Aug. 31) at noon an Englemann Field. |
