Vanderbilt’s Worth Scott (6-0, 200, Hendersonville, Tenn.) has been named to the All-Valley Baseball League first team by members of the media covering the Valley League this summer. He finished second in the league’s Most Valuable Player voting, six points behind leader Jeff Van Houten of Arizona. Scott helped lead the Staunton Braves to the South Division regular season title in the Valley League. Staunton and Harrisonburg finished the regular season with identical 26-14 records, but Staunton defeated Harrisonburg 5-1 in a one-game playoff last night to win the Division pennant.

Scott received 43 points in the MVP voting, including one first-place vote, as voted on by league managers.

Scott finished third in the league in batting average at .355 and led the league in hits with 54. He ranked in the league’s Top 10 in eight offensive categories, including fourth in slugging percentage (.526), ninth in on-base percentage (.396), sixth in runs (26), fifth in RBIs (25), fifth in doubles (10) and third in total bases (80). He also made five relief appearances on the mound, allowing no runs and four hits in four innings pitched.
