New Policy for Postgame Celebrations

Changes prioritize safety while allowing Memorial Magic to flourish

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt University today announced a new policy for postgame celebrations following men’s and women’s basketball games in Memorial Gymnasium. The change is designed to protect participants and supporters without diminishing the passion that has lifted Memorial Magic to new heights during a historic year for Vanderbilt Athletics.

The new policy states that following the conclusion of the game and once all visiting team personnel and game officials have exited the competition area, students and fans will be permitted to celebrate safely on the court for 30 minutes.

To facilitate this policy, the video board visible throughout Memorial Gym will display a one-minute countdown clock at the conclusion of the game. Once the countdown expires and the court is clear, students and fans are welcome to access the court.

Security and guest services employees will continue to prevent unauthorized individuals from accessing back-of-house areas.
