NCAA announces entire 2021 soccer championship to be held in North Carolina

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the 2021 NCAA Soccer Championships set to start in April, the NCAA announced this week the entire tournament will be held in the state of North Carolina.

All 48 teams in the women’s field will play in one geographic location to minimize travel and condense the overall time to conduct the championship. The move is effective for this year’s soccer championships, which were postponed last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Selections for the 2021 NCAA Tournament will take place on April 19. Vanderbilt has already secured its place in the field thanks to its run through the SEC Tournament field last November in Orange Beach, Alabama, winning four games in eight days to hoist the trophy.

Throughout the tournament, matches are currently scheduled to be held on the campuses of Campbell, University, East Carolina University, UNC Wilmington, UNC Greensboro and Wake Forest University, as well as non-campus venues such as Bryan Park in Greensboro, J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex in Wilson, Sportsplex in Matthews and WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The tournament will conclude with the College Cup at WakeMed Soccer Park, which is the home of the NWSL’s North Carolina Courage and USL’s North Carolina FC.

Before turning its attention to the NCAA Tournament, though, the Commodores have a pair of ranked opponents on the schedule with a visit from No. 17 Memphis this Saturday before going to play one of the ACC’s best in Duke on April 11.
