NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 14 Vanderbilt women’s tennis begins its NCAA Tournament run on Friday facing a familiar foe in Xavier, marking the second straight season the two schools will meet to begin tournament play.
The Commodores clinched hosting privileges for the opening two rounds after securing the 14th overall seed in the bracket. No. 24 Clemson and ETSU make up the other two teams competing in the Nashville Regional. Both first round matches will take place on Friday, with the Regional final taking place Saturday afternoon.
Vanderbilt (20-9, 9-6 SEC) knocked Xavier (16-8, 4-0 Big East) out of the postseason last year with a 4-0 route of the Musketeers in the first round. Both teams then met once more earlier this season on Feb. 20, resulting in a 6-1 decision that again favored the Dores. The black and gold hold a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series with Xavier and enter Friday on a 15-match win streak against unranked nonconference opponents.
Xavier comes to Nashville after claiming a sixth consecutive berth into the NCAA Tournament, seventh overall. The Musketeers sit on a nine-match win streak, which includes a run through the Big East Tournament en route to their sixth straight conference title. It is the longest stretch of Big East Tournament championships since 2013.
The NCAA requires ticket sales at every championship event. Tickets will be sold on a walk-up basis Friday and Saturday: $13 for general admission and $7 for students and children. Fans can purchase tickets and find additional information online.
