The ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships continued on Saturday and three Vanderbilt athletes find themselves still in contention.
Saturday’s action began with two consecutive rounds of doubles matches. (16) Daniel Valent and Panu Virtanen’s run in the doubles draw ended with a round of 16 defeat to (7) Jan Pallares and Felix Rauch (Memphis), but top-seeded Billy Rowe and Lachlan McPhee kept the Dores alive in the doubles draw with a victory over Belmont’s Vincent Sterkens and Henrik Immo, 8-5. Rowe and McPhee then moved on to the quarterfinals and won once again by an 8-5 margin, this time against Alejandro Manzanares and Victor Chaw from Lipscomb. Rowe/McPhee’s next match will be Sunday morning against third-seeded Kai Lemke and Matt Story (Memphis).
Daniel Valent continued his undefeated fall season on Saturday with a win over 13th-seeded Raheel Manji (IU); 6-2, 6-1. Valent will play (11) Scott Jones from host Tennessee in the quarterfinals at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The winner of that match will move on and play a semifinals match later that day.
Alex Ross also competed in the singles round of 16 after an impressive run that saw him defeat two seeded opponents, including No. 30 Clement Filho (UL) and No. 15 Stephan Koenigsfest (PUR), but his run ended on Saturday with a 6-3, 6-0 loss to second-seeded Timo Stoddard (Tennessee).
Tate Allwardt also turned in an impressive performance in the consolation bracket with a 6-1, 2-6, 12-10 victories over Maksymilian Raupuk (Purdue) and Jack Dykema (Xavier).
