Falon Spearman, Jayden Hill rewrite the Vanderbilt record books

GAINESVILLE. Fla. — The Vanderbilt track and field team picked up right where it left off on Friday night as the Commodores wrapped-up their record book-filling weekend at Florida Relays with two more school records and another five program all-time top 10 entries.

Falon Spearman, even with the wind in her face, posted a qualifying time of 13.33 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and moved onto the final. In the final, she got out of the blocks quickly and crossed the finish line 13.02 seconds, finishing second and topping her own Vanderbilt record time by 0.01 seconds.

A second school record was set by Jayden Hill in the 800 meters. She finished eighth in the event with a time of 2:03.45 to break the previous standard by nearly half a second. Kelty Oaster also cracked the Vandy all-time top 10 list in the 800 meters with the sixth-fastest time in school history at 2:05.27.

Josie Donelson pushed her name up the all-time top 10 list in the 400 meters, posting a new collegiate best time of 53.27 seconds to move from seventh to fifth in Vandy history. Faith Franklin also ran the event and finished 13th overall with a time of 52.83 seconds.

Over in the triple jump, all three competing Commodores made top 10-list updates. Lena Gooden finished third in the event with a top distance of 12.73 meters, a mark that is second in program history. Pryncess Jackson improved her standing in the top 10 with a jump of 12.57 meters. She placed seventh in the event and vaulted from seventh to third all-time. Anaya Webster, too, got in on the fun. She recorded a mark of 12.27 meters, improving upon her outdoor personal best to hold seventh in Vandy history.

The Commodores’ time at Florida Relays came to a close with shot put where Sarah Marvin sat in second place after three qualifying throws. She bettered her qualifying-high twice during the finals, with her top throw traveling 15.33 meters and took third place.

Vanderbilt is back in action Thursday when the Commodores head to College Station, Texas, for the 44 Farms Team Invitational, as well as to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the Crimson Tide Invitational.
