More Action in North Carolina

Dores add two wins in singles and three in doubles

CARY, N.C. ­– The ITA All-American Championships continued with the opening day of the qualifying round on Monday. The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team earned two wins in singles and three in doubles.

Holly Staff won in straight sets in her singles match versus North Florida’s Kit Gulihur, 6-1, 6-3.

After going 3-0 in the prequalifying round of the ITA All-American Championships, Celia-Belle Mohr continued to play well, picking up a 7-5, 6-3 win over Sabine Rutlauka of Penn.

In doubles, the pairing of Sonya Macavei and Anessa Lee went 2-0 on Monday. The duo beat UCSB’s Camille Kiss and Shakhnoza Khatamova by an 8-5 score before taking down UCLA’s Kimmi Hance and Fangran Tian, 8-2.

After falling in round 1, Mohr and Bridget Stammel bounced back with an 8-2 win over Maryland’s Hannah McColgan/Marta Perez Mur.

There will be more action in the qualifying round tomorrow.
