The Commodore men’s golf team returns to the course this weekend at the Golf Club of Tennessee for the DICK’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup, an event that features 12 of the top teams from the SEC and ACC competing against each other in a stroke and match play format.

Fifty-four holes of stroke play will take place on Friday and Saturday, with match play featuring the SEC vs. ACC occurring on Sunday at the par-71, 7,185-yard Golf Club of Tennessee.

SEC teams competing with the Commodores include Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida. Competing for the ACC will be Virginia, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Duke, Louisville, and Clemson. Vanderbilt, who is currently ranked 13th in the nation according to Golfweek.com, will be one of seven teams ranked in the Golfweek Top 25 competing in the tournament this Friday through Sunday.

“It’s always exciting to be able to play a tournament at home,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “The Golf Club of Tennessee is an awesome venue. We have so many great friends and supporters out there and that makes it special. It’s also a different type of format that allows us to do both medal and match play which is really good and will help prepare us for bigger tournaments down the road.”

Competing for Vanderbilt this weekend will be seniors Spencer Ciesla and Zack Jaworski, junior Matthias Schwab, and freshmen Will Gordon and Patrick Martin.

“Our team has had a great couple of weeks of preparation since Pebble Beach,” said Limbaugh. “This is a new team that is under construction and this week is important because it’s the next opportunity we have for this team to compete. We look forward to competing this week in front of our hometown fans, and we will certainly embrace the challenge that is ahead of us by continuing to focus on the little things and on what we can control throughout the tournament.”
