Vanderbilt head men’s golf coach Tom Shaw has announced four signees to National Letters of Intent in the fall signing period. Zach Jaworski of Alpharetta, Ga., Carson Jacobs of Hendersonville, Tenn., John Voetsch of New Vernon, N.J., and Spencer Ciesla of Naples, Fla., have all signed to compete with the Commodores beginning in the fall of 2012.

“The 2012 recruiting class represents a huge step forward in becoming one of the elite programs of the SEC,” said Shaw. “Each one of these young men are capable of handling the rigors of SEC competition and the academic challenges at one of the greatest schools in the country. Vanderbilt should be proud to have these four student-athletes represent the school on the playing field, in the classroom, and in society. I am ecstatic that Zack, Carson, John, and Spencer chose to pursue excellence at Vanderbilt.”

Jaworksi comes to Vanderbilt from Milton High School in Alpharetta, Ga., where he had a standout junior career. He claimed the 2011 AJGA Franklin Junior and the 2011 SJGT Pinetree Junior, and tied for first at the 2010 AJGA Preseason Junior. He also finished second place at 2011 AJGA Oxmoor Valley Junior and finished on the HP Scholastic All-American Honor Roll in 2010 and 2011.

“Zack has found a great home at Vanderbilt,” said Shaw. “He has enjoyed success at a national level and brings a solid swing and sharp mind to our program. We are extremely happy that Zack chose to be a Commodore and pursue his dreams as a member of our golf program.”

Jacobs, from nearby Hendersonville, Tenn., and Hendersonville High School, had success at the high school and junior level, including claiming the 2010 and the 2011 team championship with his Hendersonville team. As an individual he finished third at the 2011 Tennessee State high school championship. A member of the National Honor Society, Jacobs had a stellar summer of 2011 on the junior circuit, finishing third at The Wally, fourth at the AJGA Huntsville Junior and the Tennessee State Open, and 15th at the Bubba Conlee in Memphis.

“We are thrilled to have one of the best players in Tennessee stay close to home and be a Commodore,” said Shaw. “Carson is a terrific player and an even better person. Commodore fans are already familiar with his accomplishments in the state of Tennessee, but are soon to see what he can do on a national scale.”

Voetsch, from the Delbarton School in New Vernon, N.J., also has impressive credentials on his junior resume. He finished third at the 2011 AJGA Genesis Junior, sixth at the 2011 AJGA Philadelphia Open Championship, and seventh at the 2010 AJGA New Jersey Junior.

“John is a first-class young man who is developing at an exponential rate,” said Shaw. “He will be a great fit into our program both athletically and academically. After a great summer in 2011, John is proving himself ready for SEC golf. I am very excited about seeing him play at Vanderbilt.”

Ciesla, from the Community School of Naples in Naples, Fla, also had a stellar junior career. He finished third at the 2011 AJGA Florida Junior and 12th at the AJGA Franklin Junior, and finished eighth at the 2011 Florida Junior Tour at the Ironhorse Country Club, and ninth at the Florida Junior Team Championship. Off the course, Ciesla was a member of the National Honor Society.

“Spencer is a gifted student-athlete who we were lucky to pull from the state of Florida,” said Shaw. “He has the skill set to compete in the SEC and has demonstrated the type of competitive nature that we are looking for. In addition, his academic abilities will flourish in the Vanderbilt environment, making him a great addition for our golf program.”
