Nov. 12, 2015

Vanderbilt head men’s golf coach Scott Limbaugh has announced the signing of John Augenstein and Mason Greenberg to National Letters of Intent and will be eligible to compete for the Commodores beginning in the fall of 2016.

“This is a great day for Vanderbilt Golf,” said Limbaugh. “We were able to sign the number one ranked players in the states of Kentucky and Texas and in my opinion, that says a lot about the Vanderbilt brand. John and Mason are both high character young men that made a lifetime decision of excellence. There is a lot of work that goes into signing a class like this and Coach Smith deserves a lot of credit in helping us sign players of this caliber. He really does an outstanding job for our program.”

Augenstein comes to Vanderbilt from Owensboro, Ky., where he attended Owensboro Catholic High School and is ranked the number one player in the state of Kentucky in the class of 2016. Augenstein was a 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur Semifinalist while also claiming AJGA Rolex Honorable Mention All-American honors in that same year. In 2014, Augenstein was the 2014 Kentucky State High School individual champion and in 2015, he was named Mr. Kentucky Golf.

“We really feel that John is one of the best players in the nation,” said Limbaugh. “He has shown that he knows how to win at the highest level, and he has a burning desire to be great and to be pushed. He is an extremely proven golfer who has won on both the local level and national level. We want our program to be filled with winners and John is certainly that. He also possesses great leadership qualities and that’s very important in any championship program.”

Greenberg attended Southlake Caroll High School in Southlake, Texas, and is ranked the number one player in the state of Texas and the number six ranked player in the country in the class of 2016. In 2015, he was the Texas State Boys Junior Champion and his Southlake Carroll team won the 6A High School State Championship, while also claiming AJGA Rolex Honorable Mention All-American Honors for the year.

“Mason has really played some great golf lately,” said Limbaugh. “He comes to us from Southlake Carroll High School and has competed on a great team which is very important to us. He understands the team aspect of golf as his team won the Texas State Championship last year. He is a very talented player that also knows how to win. He is very competitive and I know he has a burning desire to be great and to make guys around him better.”
