MG moves up leader board at Schenkel

Second Round Results

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team moved up four positions on the Schenkel Invitational team leader board on Saturday to second place after a second-round score of eight-under, 280 at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga. For the tournament, the Commodores have a score of 563 (283-280) and have two players, junior Theo Humphrey and sophomore Patrick Martin, in the top 10 on the individual leader board, with Humphrey in second place and Martin in a tie for eighth.

Humphrey, who posted seven birdies in his round Saturday, carded a second-round 67 and is two shots behind individual leader Brett Barron of host Georgia Southern with a score of 135 (68-67). Martin carded a bogey-free 68 in the second round and has a score of 138 (70-68).

Vanderbilt also counted a two-under 70 from sophomore Will Gordon and a 75 from freshman John Augenstein.

“We were able to carry the momentum we finished with yesterday into today’s round and got off to a solid start,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “Theo, Patrick, and Will’s rounds were huge for us. It was pretty windy today so I was proud of how we hung in and finished the round again. We made four birdies to finish, which was awesome. We are growing and getting better, however, it takes everyone with the right kind of mindset if we are going to be the best team we can be. Tomorrow is important and we need to be a little better tomorrow than we were today and have fun.”

Georgia Southern leads the tournament after two rounds with a 556 (280-276), seven shots better than the Commodores and eight better than Florida and North Carolina State.

The third and final round of the tournament concludes on Sunday.
