BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team shot a one-under par, 287, after the first round of the Samford Intercollegiate in Hoover, Ala., and the Commodores hold a four stroke lead over Auburn, who is four strokes back in second place.

Thirty-six holes were scheduled for Monday, but due to a frost delay that delayed play for an hour in the morning, teams completed only 12 holes of their second round. The final six holes of their second round will be played on Tuesday morning, followed by the final 18 holes immediately after the second round is finished.

Sophomore Hunter Stewart paved the way for the Commodores on Monday, posting a two-under par, 70, and finished the first round in a tie for second place. Junior Charlie Ewing is in a tie for fifth place with a one-under par, 71, junior Mills Rendell and sophomore Ben Fogler are in a tie for 16th at one-over, 73, and freshman Carson Jacobs fired a four-over, 76, and is in a tie for 45th.

“I am really pleased with how well we competed all day today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We understand the things we have to do to play to our standard. Our goal tomorrow is just to focus on the little things, play our own game, and control the things we can control.”

Play at the par-72, 7,001-yard Hoover Country Club will continue at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
